After I read the article bellow I have completely lost all hope for humanity…
I don’t know if you ever noticed that but Avatar is a movie… and Pandora is a fictional world for goodness sake!
There are far more important things in REAL Earth to maky you feel depressed or even to LIFT you out of the depression…
I know London had the second highest index of depression in the world but for goodness sake… IT IS JUST A MOVIE!!! You either understand that or you will have to accept that vampires and werewolves exist (sorry Ed and Jacob teams… they DON’t).
The fact is that people keeps trying to find any old excuse to be depressed now a days… it is chick and fashionable to be depressed and 60% of the times WE ARE THE ONES THAT PUT OURSELVES IN THAT CONDITION!!!
“I even contemplate suicide thinking that if I do I will be rebirthed in a world similar to pandora (where) everything is the same as in Avatar” – Mike (some poster according to METRO)
OK… I admit that a movie can make you sad and gloomy right after you see it… but contemplating suicide because the world you live is not just like the one you just saw in a syfy movie?!?!?! Come on… just GROW UP!!!
“Visual realism in the film is causing the depression, claim experts ” It makes real life seem more imperfect” said New York Psychiatrist Dr. Stephan Quentzel.”
My advice to you: Go and watch the movie… it is awesome… and it didn’t make me slightest depressed… apart from the fact that I’ll have to wait for a while to what the sequel…
If you feel like sad and gloomy and depressed afterwards, go and see a doctor… You might even get happy pills prescribed… fun isn’t it??? I promise I won;t think lesser of you if you get depressed because of Avatar and Pandora… (yeah right…)
Am I being too harsh??? Maybe… I am in one of those moods today…
But how about you??? what do you think of all that “I am depressed because I’ve seen a sad (not at all) movie” thing??
zya!

Wow, that suicide contemplation is extreme, I’ll give you that.
I have not seen Avatar, but when I first started reading your post I was going to come comment about how seeing a sad movie can invite melancholy feelings.
In fact, I read a study years ago suggesting happy women were drawn to sad movies – because women actually physically need “a good cry” every once in a while – it is good for us – and if we don’t have a reason to cry IRL, a sad movie can help with that. I don’t think it was the same for men – but give it a try if you feel up to it!
However, once I read the quote about suicide I will change my tune – my guess is this person was depressed already, and the movie is another outlet in which to focus that depression. Like you said, therapy might be in order for someone who feels that way.
I have seen movies that are SO real feeling that I wake up the next day thinking about them. Like I said, I haven’t seen Avatar, but from what I’ve heard, I could see that being one of those movies. And I could see a previously depressed person feeling drawn to the sad parts of it.
This post makes me really want to see the movie, actually! As I’m not depressed I’m not too worried that it will have negative consequences …
Melissa´s last blog ..9 people. 4 degrees. 3 nights in the snow.
I don’t admit that often… but I’ve cried watching Titanic… and it was OK reading the 1st paragraph… even interesting… ’till I read the bit about the guy wanting to commit suicide… THAT did it for me…
)
I am on Anti-depressant drugs at them moment… and THERE IS NO REASON to feel worse by watching Avatar… I LOVED it… it has a couple of sad scenes (not gonna spoil) but it is more about (self)discovery…
GO and see it… then let me know what u thought of it! (fancy writing a guest post???
xxx
I can understand the idea of feeling so uplifted that reality makes you feel down, but the suicidal thoughts are quite crazy. The setting was pure fantasy, so it’s about as realistic as getting upset because you can’t live in the world of the movie “UP”.
I haven’t seen it yet, but I’d like to.
pixielation´s last blog ..Aerobics on acid
u gotta admit… it would be AWESOME to live in a flying house?!?!?!?!
As I said… go and see it! you won#t regret it (going again and taking TB!!!
boo hoo I don’t have a flying house, I’m going to kill myself? Hardly the thought of a rational mind. Bleeding idiots, that what I have to say about it.
second that!!

welcome to the world of the delurked!!
