The One About Friends
I have never had problems making friends…
My grandma (yes… the wise one….
) always taught us about the importance of choosing well our friends: “tell me who you walk with, and I’ll tell you who you are” she’d always say. If you take it as a raw statement I am sure you would disagree as I would too…
Now… you need to understand the background behind what she said… I was born in Brasilia, the capital of Brasil… a city that has one sole purpose to be and 80% of it’s workforce are civil servants or contractors working with some government agency or another. The idea of walking with the right crowds is 100% intertwined with being in the right terms with the right people (politicians, opinion spinners, etc etc etc.)… Or being one yourself…
Now… my family has always been in the middle of that circle and when I first decided to start working and making a living for myself Iwas setup to go and talk with senators and other power spinning peoples…either by grandma or grandpa (who decided at the time that I should be working on an embassy or something like that).
Well… I’m not very good at doing what I’m told…
Ever since I can remember I’ve been with the “wrong crowd”… specially after I met some weird people that call themselves bloggers…
No… wait… it was a bit before that… at the time the craze was chatrooms… I helped build one of the 1st ones dedicated to Brasilia and that’s where I met the dude who’s my friend today…And has been since I was about… 15 years old or so… yeah… long ago…
He is sort of my conscience… And in a way I m his… yeah… Our consciences give us LOADS of … ummm… unusual advices and they don’t seem to be very politically correct most of the time… but we have a laugh… couldn’t live without them really… hehehe… He is about 13000miles away right now… and we are still best of friends…
I can say I’m lucky… I have the best friends ever… They are all fab people and fascinating and all that. I would do anything for them (yeah… I have a few issues with limits…) But within them there is a very special few for whom I’d take a bullet for.
They are the ones that know me better than most and still take me for who I am…
.
Yeah… I’m easy-going and most times quite simple to read… but even open books have small prints… Mine are quite complicated at times…
But enough of me… me… me…
This post is to celebrate Friendship.
And thank God every day for a few special ones that I have had to rely on specially on the past few days. I am not going to mention names or situations, these friends have read in between the lines of the complicated book that is me and if… no… not if, when they read this post they will know I am talking to them and about them… and they know they have my unconditional love.
Once again this post ended up not being what I started writing…
I follow my heart… and I have got a huge one… I suppose is more space for the special people that make their way into it.
Rant over…
Would you take a bullet for a friend?
