The one with a Marathon of my own

Don’t tell me what I can and what I can’t do! That is one of the things you need to learn about me…

I can be as stubborn as can be… and as obstinate… I could just start this blog post from here and go ahead… it would bring me to my point anyway, but I fee you need to understand a bit of what I’ve been through to understand why I took the decisions I today, and WHY I took the first line of this post as a personal challenge. I supposed it all started early Sunday morning.

A few of our Blogging friends ran today the Adidas Womens Challenge 5K and as I was going to be in London for the Brazilian Film Festival at the Apollo in Piccalilli  anyway so I wanted to go and give some moral support, in special to Hayley who had decided she would actually RUN for the whole 5k. I suppose that’s where the story actually starts.

The Wife was a bit poorly that morning so I gave her some extra time in bed and ended up missing my train to London. which meant that I wasn’t able to make it to Hyde Park in time for the start… or the end of the race.

Yeah… I left for London early just to see her running and missed the whole thing… which made me quite sad really… A big hug later made things  better…

Ah… Did I mention I lost my travelcard at some point after t I left South Kensington Station? Yeah… So far not really my day… I had 5 hours to kill so Hales invited me to go for a tube journey back to her place just to kill some time…

The train Journey became an invitation go and kill some more time at her place with Simba (with loads of tickles and pillow fights) , her mum and her. I took the time to take some photos of her with Simba while we were there. I’ll post some of them later after they get processed (apart from the little sample on the side). We had a great time and I can say it was one of the highlights of my day. I’ll blog about the rest of my day later… For now lets just say it went all according to script up until the moment where the tube trains got delayed and I missed the last train to Liphook having to to take the last one to Haslemere in order to get back home. I even managed to convince the train guard that the receipt for the tkt I had bought in the morning would be valid as a ticket. and that’s when I thought my luck was changing… I couldn’t be more wrong.

When I got t o Haslemere there we no more taxis in the line, the taxi companies I rang were already closed and the guy at the hotel in front of Haslemere Station said only way forward was to rent an £80 room and stay the night to which I said : “No thanks.. I’m walking home” He laughed and told me

“you don’t think you can walk to Liphook do you?”

Well… as I said before… DON’T tell me what I can or can’t do… I took it as a challenge… First thing it came to mind was “If Hayley can RUN 5K I sure can WALK 4mi… In my head it was a simple enough plan… The Wife thought I was crazy… there were Pitch Black areas (well half of the way really)where I would be walking on the pavement… there were ups and down-hills I had to go through and I was carrying a bag full of lighting equipment (none of which was battery powered before you ask).

Would I do it again tonight??? ummm… after driving through the same bit of road tonight I see it was insanity…

I mean… I took this picture at some point…

See something there???? No??? yeah…. me neither… bonkers… :)

That was just before I fell into a ditch…and sat there saying

“please let it be a nightmare please let it be a nightmare, please let it be a nightmare…”

Well… it wasn’t and reality hit hard as I fell my ankle hurting for the rest of the way…

Plus I had to get home… there was no choice and no other alternative… I was alone in the dark…  and in a dangerous situation…

so I pushed forward…..

it took me 2:30hrs to walk 4.2mi… but I did it… Carrying all the stuff I had on my bag… and using only the viewfinder of my camera as light to make sure I didn’t fall in another ditch… just enough to see the floor where I was standing…

But I made it home…

NEVER tell me I can;t do something… I might just thake the challenge and prove you I can… or at least get into some serious trouble trying. ;)

How about you? How do you usually go on about your personal challenges? Are you stubborn like me? Do you plan ahead? Do you go with the flow?? :)

zya!

I come from Anglesey I am used to the dark roads. I hope you didn’t have any sheep in the fields because they sound just like a person when they cough and having a sheep track you behind a hedge coughing really screws you up when you have an over-active imagination like me.
Anyway, I totally get the “do it cos someone told you you couldn’t” thing. It gets me in so much trouble!
