Funny things mobile phones are nowadays…
Me and Lush were talking on Monday about little comforts that we thing we need to be able to live and how it only takes moving houses to notice how we don’t REALLY need everything we owe.
In her case it took having her whole house packed away in storage… and then have it back in the lounge inside boxes to realise that actually… she didn;t need all of that stuff, and didn’t feel attached to any of it…
To me it took only a car full of things… The rest was left behind in various places…
Now you see… I am crazy about gadgets… Maplin is my idea of paradise… but I kinda came to realise that REALLY…. there are only 2 items in my inventory that I simply couldn’t live without it nowadays.
One of them is my MacBook… It is my office wherever I am… But even then it’s only because I there are a few things that I can’t just do on my iPhone.
THAT is the second material thing I can’t do without… And That is the magic about smart phones… Think of everything you have at your fingertips:
- A Phone (of course)
- Access to SMS (addicted to it… yeah… I kno)
- GPS (I carry both SatNav and Ordinance Surveyors maps in it)
- Access to my Email Accounts
- Access to twitter (can’t go without twitter can we???)
- internet wherever I am (well… wherever I can get signal)
- I can write and post to my blog from it…
- It is my camera whenever I don’t have my camera on moe (love Hipsta!!!)
- my diary (I carry two actually… the phone and a small Filfofax Hales gave me for Xmas… awesome little thing, but I really organise myself on the iPhoneO
- Notepad when I’m not carrying a notepad
- games (usually not for me… most of the ones I have installed in it are for the kids… hehehehe)
- Books (currently loaded with pregnancy books… yeah… am doing a crash course again… hehehe)
- photography album (people keep photos on their wallets…. well… I keep them in my phone…)
- access to news AND TV…
- PhoneBook (how many of your friends numbers you know by heart???? I don’t even know my mother’s number by heart!!!)
- MP3 Player… Can’t go without music, and I carry all my music with me…
- My bible… yup… I eventually still read it… and I carry it in the iPhone)
- There’s an APP for EVERYTHING!!!!!! I really MEAN everything… one special for the girls… did you know there’s one called MyVibe that transforms your phone in a vibrator? Don’t ask and I won’t tell… well if you ask I probably won’t either… hehehehe
Basically we today carry more computer power in our pockets than the whole fleet of modules of the Apolo Project…. Is tat cool or what????
Only downside is that it means that I am wired up all the time… but that can be solved by turning it off… It never happens unless the battery runs out but hey… that’s beside the point right????
I don’t think I’d really miss any other possessions much if on day I decided to get a rucksack on mt back and take the road… OK… I’d probably take my camera with me… but my camera goes almost everywhere with me anyway…
