Category: Weekend!!!

Sometimes I worry I am starting to get old.. Okay… maybe not sometimes… maybe it is most of the time but that is beside the point… You know what I mean and all that. Once you have kids and they start having a social life that is much more agitated than yours you know you are on the way to your demise…

I mean… not so long ago (over 10 years ago… eeek) I used to be the one that would go out on a Friday Night to go clubbing and not come back home until at least Sunday afternoon after party hopping with some of my best friends. The stuff of my regular points knew me by name it was that bad… Live hard… party harder… and all that. (ROFL)

Hardcore huh?!?! As if… My circle of friends was quite healthy on the things we used to do to have fun… We might have ended up in a beach 800Km from home once but that is beside the point… I am not here to talk about me… I am here to talk about the Big Monkey today.

And Yesterday was SCHOOL DISCO NIGHT!!!

He has been so very excited about that all week long. I had to laugh hard when I picked Lil One out of the childminders and she told me how relieved he was when she confirmed to him (twice) that this weekend was not a daddy weekend because he sooooo wanted to go and was at night etc etc… :-)

School Disco is a serious point. It involves loads of prepping and  practising of dance moves (And he told me when I picked him up that he “busted all his moves”.  And we got a first view of them before I went out to drop him off at the school gate (I wasn’t allowed to get out of the car this time… As if I was going to embarrass him or anything like that… the cheek!!!!)

And of course… there are the outfits… Which this time around he wasn’t too sure he had the perfect one because, and that is VERY important and relevant: His mum chose it for him. (OUTRAGE!!!)

He wanted to go to the disco wearing a waistcoat, a “Michael Jackson style” hat, fingerless gloves and sun glasses… ROFL!!!! I think I kinda see why Vic vetoed the outfit… I blame it on all the hours we’ve let him watch MTV in his baby chair when he was a baby… What??? We were in Brazil, and Vic missed home, and for a while that was the only TV channel in we had in English… hehehe…

My big boy is growing up… And way too quick as well! I was pondering on that and feeling happy that the other ones will still be a while until the other two start giving their first steps on the having an actual independent and agitated social life until I see THAT crossing in front of the camera to join his brother as he demonstrated his latest dance moves…

Yeah… I forgot Little One already HAS his own amazing little moves… Much like his big brother… He made us laugh sooooo much!! God… I just love those little moments! Gotta enjoy them as much as I can while they last… The are rare and VERY precious these days… I truly wish they could last forever…

…and in a way they will… in my mind… and in my heart…

Go on… I DARE you to tell me it doesn’t happen to you too!!!! ;-)

Simple things make me happy… LOL!!!!!

Have a great weekend!!!!

Weekends with The Monkeys are always a hectic, exhausting, hyperactive and extremely awesome lot of fun!

Why am I saying that now? Well… I have realised I haven’t blogged about happy times with them lately… I’ve spent so long thinking about what’s wrong and what’s (who’s) missing in my life that I haven’t stopped to smell the roses and well… notice the happy times I have with Big and Little monkeys.

I haven’t also taken the time to stop and take photos just for the fun of it lately… Like… proper photos, not the ones I take with my phone and put on instagram. So today I decided to break the circle and do both of them today: Blog about my day with The Monkeys (in pictures no ness) and take photos for the fun of it… And what better subjects then The Monkeys themselves?

So we’re back to the face of the earth and to the world of technology, communications and social networks…

Well… to be fair we never completely left it… hehehe… After all Hales was twitting within a couple of hours of us leaving her place on route to our secret hide away on the mountains… And We used SatNav to get there and about… and we used digital cameras… and the iMac to watch movies and the iPhone to check emails…

So yeah… maybe we couldn’t handle a technology free weekend, but we kept social network interaction at a minimum… :)

The trip over there wasn’t bad and we managed to get from Surrey to the Peak District in a little over 3 hours leaving a little late because I got delayed by traffic on the A3 thus infuriating a bit my gorgeous girlfriend. Nothing that a few jokes wouldn’t solve tho so all was good.

I managed to get us to the wrong road within seconds of leaving the M25… To be saved again by technology and Saint Google Maps smartly read and navigated by a certain cute purple hair young mummy.

We’ve finally arrived to our secret (ish) hideaway avoiding getting snowed at throughout the way at nearly 12am where after a few failed attempts, and 1 call to Brazil we managed to get the boiler to work and warm up the -4C temperature that greeted us INSIDE the stone cottage… No snow but plenty of cold… even under the duvets so we literally slept in what we were wearing underneath, two duvets and hales wrapped in three blankets and each other.

Morning brought a new surprise in the form of about 3 inches of snow that we discovered right after the GF had texted her mum saying that we had no snow up there… hehehe… We spent a few minutes taking pictures of the cold thick white carpet out there.

Seeking breakfast we once more relied on technology in the form of Google to find the nearest Tesco 11miles away which took us about 1 hour and a bit to drive through snowed up country lanes up and down hills on mum’s poor Peugeot 307 (yeah… we should have probably taken the Monsta Truck… but opted for economic driving up there) only to find out about the brand new Sainsburys just around the corner on the way back… Oh well…

We got back to our snowed out refuge and went straight to bed to do something VERY exciting… Sleep! ah the joys of parenthood… you take what you get… lol… And we were both probably needing it… To be honest, the weekend wasn’t everything we had planned (we’d planned a 13km hike for saturday but Hales forgot her boots and we decided not to go for such venture because of the snow) but all the rest we had was well worth it.

Evening brought a romantic dinner prepared by yours truly with all my love. Just the 2 of us… and cameras… yeah… we’re hopeless like that… :) … then cuddling up in bed to watch soppy romantic comedies… And what comes next it is none of your business! :P

We were due to leave to London early morning to be back for lunch but we only woke up at 10:30am… By the time we got up and dressed and took a few photos of Hales for my portfolio using the awesome necklaces from @LittleFairyCult that she has kindly donated as prizes for the @Livvyssmile prize draw in a few days (will be posting photos some time this week),  it was about 12pm.

Now there comes the bit that wasn’t fun at all… The journey home… Not just because the weekend was over and we’d be getting back to real life but because we had to sit through 7 and a half hours of traffic down the M1 / M25…

And now we’re back to real life… Still… batteries recharged and ready for whatever comes ahead…

Great times were had… can’t wait for the next one!!

So… to the response as to if we can live without technology… erm… what do you think??? :)

Enjoy the photos in the cool little montage on top… ;)

We’re dropping off the the face of the earth in a couple of hours for a whole weekend without technology in an undisclosed location. Well… not really… We’re both taking laptops, cameras, mobiles and 2 Mobile Internet Dongles, but we have a deal… they get stashed away for most of the time (apart from the cameras) and we are not using any social network for the 48hours we are spending away.

I can’t begin to tell you how I’m looking forward to it…

God knows how much I’ve been needing to get away from life for a while… And yeah… The romantic get-away is also much needed after all we’ve been through for the past couple of months.

I Can’t also begin to tell how difficult it will be as well…

Why??

Well… Where do I begin?!?!

I’m constantly attached to my iPhone and constantly checking emails, facebook, twitter, sms, the works…

Hales is glued to her Blackberry more often than not checking the same stuff (plus BBN) and suffers of a serious case of Blackberryitus.

So… going off the grid should be interesting!  lol…

See you Sunday night… if we don’t get snowed under… :)

Actually… I’m taking bets as to how long she’ll manage not to log into any social network… any takers??? ;)

Logging Off!
