I could spend the next few minutes telling you all about the awesome time we had with a few very special MAD bloggers and a few friends last weekend here at the UrbanVox HQ.

We had a blast of a time at Millets Farm Maize Maze and where we went along with some Fab bloggers (queue for plugging Hayley, Pippa ,Catherine , Paula , Gayle , Emma and Jon ) and their families for the Grand Opening of the ’Special Circus’ themed day on Saturday 24th July to celebrate the beginning of the school holidays! If you’ve been following the UrbanVox HQ you will know that our household is no stranger to Portsmouth.
Portsmouth itself, holds a special place in our heart: it was where the wife and I first met (in real life, that is… We’d been following each other’s blogs and exchanged emails and talked on ICQ for about a month or so before that). That first day we shopped in town and walked out to Gunwharf Quays late afternoon. Our first flat was in Portsmouth(Well Fratton) and we frequently visited Gunwharf and loved the Victorian Christmas festival. It was also in Portsmouth that I popped the big question(or tried as she managed to find the ring while I was cooking a special dinner during which I was planning to propose) and it was there that we got Married.
So it was a pleasure to be recruited by Have a Lovely Time to go and write a review on the new Family Fun in the Beautiful South campaign of Tourism South East.
The Wife has landed a chance to review the Tankfest 2010 for Have a Lovely Time this year and boy… how am I happy she went for it. It is no secret that I am a bit of a History Freak and I have a particular interest in Warfare History (so if you are ever going to give me a prezzie that’s a good suggestion). When we found out where it was Vic wanted to second guess if it was a good idea to go but after consulting with TB it was decided that it was going to be well worth the 3 hours we were going to spend in the car to get there.
We were supposed to leave the house at about 8am so we would have enough time to get to Bovington with enough time to see the RAF parachute demonstration… Only knowing us you will know that we overslept… and didn’t leave until about 10am just in time to roast all the way over there there.it does
3 hours later and we started seeing signs that we were close… Still no tanks crossing the road (TB was sooo looking forward to seeing one driving past us… lol). After finding the car park and being told off by the army dude organizing the car park because I was going on the wrong way to park and after taking a dusty trail to the actual venue we got to the Tank Museum.
TB got quite impressed with the tanks he saw at the door and not so impressed because he couldn’t t climb on them.
Next step was finding a shadow to sit under and have some lunch which me The Wife and Lil One did… as TB decided that it would be much more fun to zip along on a zip line they had on a kid’s playground. We ate and into the museum we went (the demonstrations had stopped for lunch brake and the museum was so much cooler than the outside’s insufferable heat so wise choice).
And there were tanks of all shapes and sizes.
And the side shows were GREAT… there was even an anti-tank sniper gun marksmanship simulator where I had to demonstrate to TB how to score 75 out of 75 targets scoring a “2nd class Marksman” score (which is complete BS as I am a certified 1st class marksman
) The simulator even mimics the gun recoil… quite cool… although it wasn’t very welcome on my sunburn’t shoulders…
TB was looking forward to seeing one of the UNSC (United NAtions Space Command… from halo) Scorpion Class Tank… I had to tell him that the Scorpion existed only on fiction… but I got to show him the next best thing… a USMC (United States Marine Corps) Main Battle Tank. he was quite impressed.
But there was so much more to see… there was only one way to convince him to come outside to see the rest of the show:
And it worked…
We were soon out and visiting WWII trenches and dramatizations (or sad muppet army guys as the Wife would call them…
E even got to march with a small group of them… well… I tried but nearly dropped the whole column because TB wanted to take a pic me with the “Marines” and the formations halted and I marched straight into the dude army man in front of me… Embarrassing…
yup… I got booted out of the military after that…
Well… I took over 200 pictures and I believe they will speak more than words here… (I’ve only uploaded the best 120 tho…
)
It is enough to say that we loved the day out… and even The Wife took interest in some of the stuff we saw there so it has to be a AWESOME!
I’ll leave you the pictures and if you want more info on the Tank museum, yuou can check out their website here.
And if you are looking for some family fun stuff to do head to Have a Lovely Time!
Enjoy the pictures!
