Christmas of YesterYear for #thegallery

When I was a kid Christmas was always a big occasion… All the family getting together, coming from wherever you are (and believe me, people would come from the 4 corners of the earth) and congregating at my Grandma’s place… Seeing loved ones, the delicious food, laugh, games grandpa giving us money (Christmas was the only time he would ACTUALLY VOLUNTARILY give us money without complaining or anything… as long as we were in a public place for all to see… yeah…).

All was good… Then my parents got divorced, we all grew up, got married and well… grandma passed away and now we all meet mostly on weddings, funerals, and few other social gatherings… And of course… Like each other’s Facebook statuses…

Christmas wasn’t the same since then…

Then Big Monkey was born and well… Magically Christmas time was bearable again… And I even smiled and got on the spirit of things! Seriously… I am not a toooooootal Grinch!! ;-)

Don’t take me wrong… I’m still me and still feel like hiding under the covers and wait until the “season to be jolly” is over so I can crawl out of my hidey-hole for one more year of Evil-Red-Wearing-Bearded-Clowns free time! Well… Yeah… Big Monkey says I am the Bearded Dude… but hey… never-mind…

I am such a Grumpy Old Man… :-)

Anyway… For this year’s Gallery Christmass Special: a hairy, cuddly, cheeky Big Monkey’s Magic time in 2006… :-)

Have a Happy Crimbo!

The Christmas Bells are Ringing

I can’t believe it is that time of the year again…

They are EVERYWHERE!

If you know me/and/or read my blog for some time already you will know that I am not the most Christmassy person in the world. Don’t take me wrong, I love the family gathering bit and the being with the ones we love and and the food… aaahhh… the food… but… The constant ringing of the Christmas Bells gets on my nuts.

Yeah… The Christmas Bells are ringing… And there is no other way to put what I feel about it but using one of the famous words of the great philosopher Jeremy Clarkson: Stop!! Stop Ringing those damned Bells! (well… not exactly these words… but it is what I would have used…)

Coming from a Marketing / Advertisement background I shouldn’t really get so annoyed at Christmas but I do.

It is all about selling and buying and consuming these days… It kinda feels like peace on earth to the men of good will became such a secondary thing that it isn’t really heard of much these days…

The Only Christmas Bells we hear ringing are the ones of the shops ding dongging in search for our attention to the latest toys and gadgets and latest offers for Christmas time…

To me that’s not what Christmas was supposed to be all about… and that depresses me…

Don’t take me wrong… I like giving and receiving presents just like the . next person.. but… the whole consumerism that goes whit the date just gets to me and not in a good way… Something that was supposed to be special becomes all about the latest craze… the latest toys and the latest fashions… And half of those things won’t even be around next year…

But The Christmas Bells will ring some more… I just hope we have some time to remember what the date is all about.

Operation Xmas Tree

Vic wanted a xmas tree… me and TB had some ideas on how to decorate it… that’s what u get when u put the 2 ideas together… hehehehe

Legos Guys Invade Christmas

If you’ve been following glowstars.net and urbanvox.net for the past few days you will know that we are in full Christmas swing here at UrbanVox HQ. And this year I am taking a swing at the Christmas decorations.

See if you can see my logic, I will be as direct and straight forward as possible:

We will not spend Christmas  at home. Therefore it makes no sense having the house all decorated for Christmas.

Doesn’t that make sense???

Well… it doesn’t make any sense to Vic… She wants trees, tinsels and the whole shebang.

As you can se here, here, and here and well other places I can’t remember right now, we are having our customary xmas battle over decorations etc, mainly because I know I AM the one that will have to clear it up later.

Last round it looked like I was losing the war and Vic was gloating over it: she had tricked me into a compromise and as so manage to build a monument to her victory in our fireplace… but I am a genius!!! hehehe

Under my command today at 17:30pm a group of elite troopers took control of the enemy’s latest victory: The Christmas Tree!!!

As they say… if you can’t win… have a Lego Star Wars tree instead… ;)
