Confessions of a SuperDad wannabe.

When I was a kid I wanted to be the coolest dad ever once I grew up.

And as I was growing up I took 200000000 notes of what I would have to do if I wanted to be Daddy Cool. I took note of my dad’s mistakes and promised I would never do the same. I promised myself that I’d always be there and that no work related issue would come before my kids. I had decided that I’d play with them as often as I could and that I was going to make sure they got plenty of attention. I had decided that I would read them bed time stories and sit with them to do homework and stuff…

Then I grew up and my inner-child hid away in shame.

I had some time to think for the past few weeks… I know I should have taken this time and done something constructive or so… but I have instead decided to do some sort of balancing on it… you know?? Like you do with your check book???

Well yeah… I am none of the things I wanted to be… Well… I am a dad.

But I don’t seem to be able to spend a long as I’d like it with my kids… Even though I am at home with them.

When TB asked me to come and play with him and I said I’d do it later because I was a little busy at the moment.

“You are ALWAYS busy!” he told me and turned to walk away

The One Where I Talk About Boobs and Milk

We try to be good parents and some times we go through extensive lengths to try and do things right… well The Wife does it and I follow… almost always…

You see… I disagree with more than half of the little rules modern British policy makers lay about (and change every other day). I think my faith in them completely collapsed when the TB got diagnosed with a little cold when he had a serious chest infection… Worse… the doctor “diagnosed” the cold by ignoring everything I said and refusing to even hearing TB’s chest…

Well… that’s not what that post is supposed to be about and I am cutting the subject short before I go on a rant! I am sure there are some good doctors around… I just haven’t met any yet…

Today I’m here to talk about what I consider rule number one when it comes to looking after the little ones. BREASTFEEDING

The wife is running today a Breastfeeding awareness day carnival and asked me to write giving  a male point of view on the topic and I am happy so say I am an expert on the subject having “breastfed” both of our sons… no… I have no boobs but I did feed them breast milk whilst holding them close to my chest… of course… using a bottle (I feel like I need to clarify that before people pics on tachnicalities… learned that with the VagPot incident lol) . :)

I am also a specialist on boobs but I suppose that is irrelevant to the case I am trying to hold here…. ;)

I could talk about all the benefits to growth and intelligence and comfort and self-confidence that are a result of boobfeeding… But I will leave that to the other wonderful ladies blogging about it today.

I will focus on the male perspective… and I am afraid to say that I can describe it in 2 words: Bloody Scary…

If not scary at least uncomfortable…

Women… Point me one man that doesn’t turn his eye on other direction or lowers his sight when you breastfeed in his presence. Well… I don’t count… I’ve been indoctrinated… I’ve had to hold TB against the wife’s breast to be breastfed and had to use one of her Philips Machine thing to “express milk” (I was… AM holding so hard not to make any   references to milking the cow… But after reading her review on the Philims Automatic Milk Expressin MAchine thingy I feel empowered to use the expression Milking… I am rambling about again ain’t I?? What can I say? I get easily distracted… :) )

Where did I stop… yeah… Bloody scary…

Who doesn’t like boobs? If you are a guy be honest with me… Whenever there is one out (that does not have a baby attached to it) you will glance, stare… Admit it… you will at least take a quick pick if you can…  but at the sight of a breastfeeding woman most dudes coward.

I suppose you expect me to say why now right?? Well… I won’t… We have few secrets enough as it is… you gurls know us inside out… Happy? :)

I’m the one feeding Mr. A during the day as The Wife is back to work and I have regained especial respect for women that take this ask at hands. It can be boring… frustrating and tiring some times, but it is also an awesome bonding experience.

And you know what??? Ignore disproving glances if you have to do it in public: There is no better way to show love to your baby!!

I have no other thing to say to you but CONGRATULATIONS!!! You truly are super mums!!

zya!

PS: and kudos to you too full time dads! ;)

PS2: go visit the festival thingy and read the other blogs here: http://www.glowstars.net

PS3: I want to know your point of view!!! Comment, share, twit about it! Do something! :)
