Christmas of YesterYear for #thegallery

When I was a kid Christmas was always a big occasion… All the family getting together, coming from wherever you are (and believe me, people would come from the 4 corners of the earth) and congregating at my Grandma’s place… Seeing loved ones, the delicious food, laugh, games grandpa giving us money (Christmas was the only time he would ACTUALLY VOLUNTARILY give us money without complaining or anything… as long as we were in a public place for all to see… yeah…).

All was good… Then my parents got divorced, we all grew up, got married and well… grandma passed away and now we all meet mostly on weddings, funerals, and few other social gatherings… And of course… Like each other’s Facebook statuses…

Christmas wasn’t the same since then…

Then Big Monkey was born and well… Magically Christmas time was bearable again… And I even smiled and got on the spirit of things! Seriously… I am not a toooooootal Grinch!! ;-)

Don’t take me wrong… I’m still me and still feel like hiding under the covers and wait until the “season to be jolly” is over so I can crawl out of my hidey-hole for one more year of Evil-Red-Wearing-Bearded-Clowns free time! Well… Yeah… Big Monkey says I am the Bearded Dude… but hey… never-mind…

I am such a Grumpy Old Man… :-)

Anyway… For this year’s Gallery Christmass Special: a hairy, cuddly, cheeky Big Monkey’s Magic time in 2006… :-)

Have a Happy Crimbo!

The Gallery: A Happy Memory

I had to think that one through… a lot…

The first image that came to mind was the moment I held each of my sons for the 1st time… And I suppose that would be the obvious choice for my gallery post… Each of those moments filled me with joy in a way that I couldn’t begin to describe… Wasn’t just joy though… there was the little tingle that kept probing me constantly questioning if I would be a good dad, if I would make the cut and be there whenever they need me…. I also couldn’t single out ONE good memory… they are constantly making me happy every since they we conceived… all 3 of them… It’s been a mixture constant pain but happiness every time I see their faces smiling at me…

So no… I don’t think is fair to single out the birth of one of them… that is just the beginning… And there is a lot more to come… I’m sure there will be many more happier moments in which they will make me happier and prouder to be their dad.

But if I have to choose a happy memory it would be one I have that have been visiting me quite a lot lately…

One of a happy day spent on Green Park a few years back… The weather was not the best, but we were happy… life wasn’t as complicated as it is today… We were a family… and for the few hours we were out there there was nothing but enjoying each other’s company and laughing of a little monkey (at the time our only monkey) and the way he was an adventurous explorer… a pirate…

A happy memory from a happy day in the park… not so long ago…

The Gallery: Black And White

PS: Sorry for the video with the annoying song that will probably be stuck in your head for the rest of the day…

I just couldn’t resist… ;)

The Gallery: Children

I have 3 very special boys in my life.

They were born in different families and grew up in a different set of rules all together but if they were blood brothers it wouldn’t have worked out as perfectly…

The 2 eldest ones are inseparable when together. I love to see the way they plan things and after much negotiation agree on rules of their games. Yes, they have times where they want their space and that causes conflict sometimes… but it all evaporates within minutes when a new game begins… The littlest one is going the same way and I can actually see the 3 of them causing even more havoc together…

The 3 terrors we call them… :)

It is still all very new… for all of us… but as this new family grows we’ve been putting the little pieces together.

I don’t talk much about the bible… but I have an example to take from it… “We need to be like children if we want to be in Heaven”…

If we only learned to follow the logic of our children there wouldn’t be any more war, or enemy countries… Imagine a world where we could all live in peace? Utopia??? Maybe… Bit I believe we are the ones responsible for making the earth we live become paradise… or hell…

There is always a new lesson to be learned from our Children…

Being grown up doesn’t make you wise…

What have you learned from the children in your life today????
